The Winelands
Less than an hour’s drive from Cape Town’s hustle and bustle you will find The Orchard, commonly referred to as South Africa’s fruit garden
Citrus
plantations, peach groves, sun ripened date and pear orchards vie for
your attention. The eye wallows in endless rows of fantastically lush
and sumptuous vine pales.
Cape-Dutch architecture
In the idyllic university town of Stellenbosch more than just the wine
matures. The town is historically renowned for turning out the
country’s political leaders, among them Apartheid leaders, of course,
but also contemporary reform-minded politicians, as well. However, on a
visit to the town its unique architecture in classical Cape Dutch style
and its culinary delights provide the main attractions. |

Expanding vineyards
German, Dutch and French peasant winegrowers, fleeing religious
persecution in Europe, established settlements here at the end of the
1600s in an area formerly known as Limiet Valley, then the outpost of
civilization. It was here that supplies were purchased and wagons
repaired one last time.
The vineyards expanded and the people prospered, and the area is now one of South Africa’s most agreeable.
Taste the wine
Unless you prefer a guided tour, the area is ideal for driving. Choose
your own pace and let Liberty International take care of the details.
