Getting there in style
Flight
time to South Africa is about 8 – 14 hours from Europe, depending on
your routing. Most flights depart in the evening and arrive in South
Africa the next morning
Even if there are not
direct connections to South Africa from all European countries, major
European airports, for instance, London, Amsterdam, Frankfurt, Zürich,
Paris, Milan, Athens and Madrid serve as gateway for direct flights to
Johannesburg, while London, Frankfurt and Amsterdam provide non-stop to
Cape Town.
Lufthansa, British Airways, KLM
and South African Airways fly to both destinations, while Swiss Air,
Iberia, TAP Air Portugal and Air France fly only to Johannesburg.
South
Africa is also served by direct flights from New York, Atlanta, Sao
Paulo, Buenos Aires, Nairobi, Mauritius, Tel Aviv, Dubai, Mumbai,
Singapore, Sydney and Perth,
Around the country by air
South Africa has an extensive and well-developed domestic airline
network. There are numerous daily departures between major cities and
good connections to smaller destinations, as well.
Prices on domestic flights are highly competitive. Especially if you go
bargain hunting with local low fare airlines such as Nationwide, 1time
and Kulula.com. or reserve when booking your overseas tickets. This
also applies to connections to destinations in neighbouring countries
like Victoria Falls, Windhoek and Maputo.
Almost
every lodge in the country has its own landing strip and you can fly
direct by air charter to your destination without having to change to
road transport (air taxis are, however, more expensive than scheduled
flights). |
